Dr. Coleman and Parents,
I have read Dr. Coleman's book and what an eye opener it was to me. I have also suffered from depression my entire life. I am retired now, depressed a lot, mostly because of my daughter's dislike of me. I have 2 grandchildren. I am trying to follow the advice Dr. Coleman has recommended in his book. Still trying to work on it. I never thought parenting could turn into such a nightmare when your child became an adult. The many elements that could contribute to this situation are astounding.
I was not depressed while my daughter was growing up. I was happy to be a Mom and thrilled with her birth. I was involved in every aspect of her life. She had dance lessons, gymnastics, piano lessons and all the things other parents did. Her father and I did not get along so well. He was strict and liked a lot of space to do his own thing - not what I wanted for a family life.
Thank you for this wonderful book and to the people who share their feelings. It's nice to know I am not alone.
